Well all, the secret has been revealed! No it’s not something to do with Scarlet, it’s a new contest we’re having! If you haven’t been able to tell from our teasers, CoT is now going to be putting out a webcomic for your enjoyment! What does this have to do with a contest, you ask? Well if you are one of the lucky winners, you may have a chance to design a character to be used by CoT in our comic! Here is a breakdown of the prize and the rules:
Prize: Our comic will be following a group of 5 adventurers on their travels throughout Tyria. Check out the comic page at www.chroniclesoftyria.com/comic to see the character profiles of 2 of the 5 characters, Koorg, and Tryffyn. That’s only two characters I hear you say, well that’s because we’re leaving the creation of the other 3 characters to you! That’s right, the winner of the contest will have their character forever immortalized within our comic as a permanent member of the main party! On top of this, the winner will also receive a portrait of their character as drawn by our resident artist Saune (check out more of her work here: http://maazka.deviantart.com/gallery/)
There will be 3 winners chosen, one for each of the remaining races (human, charr, and asura).
Now onto the contest rules:
The contest is live as of the posting of these rules and will run until 3/19/2014 at 11:59PM EST. All entries submitted during that time will be considered and the final judging will be completed by 3/26/14. Please submit your entries to email@example.com
Any entry found in a public area (ie posted or submitted anywhere but the listed email) will be disqualified.
Contest applicants may only submit character ideas for human, charr or asura characters.
Each contestant may submit one character of each race (for a total of 3 entries) if they so choose.
Existing character profiles of Koorg and Tryffyn found here can be used as an example. Please provide as much, if not more information, about said character’s personality traits, quirks etc. Be aware that the example character profiles are meant for public viewing and potential spoilers are not included in them. This is a comic after all, so the more distinct and interesting the character, the more likely they will be chosen.
Please be as descriptive of the design (armor, weapons, skin color, tattoos, face, hair, etc.) as possible. While it is not required to have an in game representation or sketch of your character, it may improve your chances of being chosen.
We are designing the story assuming the characters are around level 30, so while there is no “level cap” on armor, use your best judgement when considering armor designs for your character(s) (a level 30 character should not have Arah dungeon armor and ascended weapons, etc).
If you are chosen as a winner, our artist/writers may contact you to further refine concepts for your character before their introduction into the comic.
Judging Criterion: All entries will be judged based on how well they followed the rules, and how intriguing the character is. Contestants are allowed one entry per race, all extra entries will be disqualified.
DISCLAIMER: As the comic is a Chronicles of Tyria production, Chronicles of Tyria reserves the right to make decisions and take artistic license with the character and character design. The contest is to “design a character to be used by CoT in our webcomic”.
Where do I submit my entry?
All entries must be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
Do you expect the other 3 characters to have different professions?
Unlike the races, profession is not restricted. If you want to make an engineer or warrior you can. However we do need to reiterate that the characters need to be unique. A grouchy warrior will most likely get rejected since it’s not that different from Koorg, etc. Comics thrive on having unique and interesting characters, so that’s what we’re going for!
Can a character be an existing character?
We frown on pre-existing characters. You are creating a character for a webcomic, we do not want to be tied down by a pre-existing storyline or fan-lore.
Remember: The contest is to design a character for CoT to use within our webcomic and that all winning submissions become property of the webcomic. Therefore all future character related decisions will be made by CoT and the webcomic staff.
