A map of Tyria

Welcome back adventurers!

It’s been a while now, but I have a lot of articles on the way for you guys. I’ve been spending a lot of time in the Durmand Priory in the first few days of the game. A lot of interesting New Krytan can be found in there.

This article will focus on a giant map of Tyria (the continent) found on the floor of the Priory.

On this map we can see that Tyrians have come a long way in the art of cartography even though some mistake can be seen but I will talk about that later on.

The first things we can clearly see is the implementation of the cardinal points other than on a compass rose.

We can also see that Tyria now has a concept of the different parallel to divide the planet.

All of this is really great progress on a geographical level but as you can see on the first map, only one continent is on this map. This creates a problem on a perspective level. By only putting a part of the world in this type of perspective and making the map in a circular way, it seems like Tyria is the only place on the planet. In my opinion, Arenanet intentionally put this in-game since from a lore stand point, we haven’t had communication with Cantha and Elona, the other known continents, in a few generations. Geographers wouldn’t know what they look like now and could think that only Tyria is left and is now ”the only safe world”.
